Cesaro has named Seth Rollins as this generation’s “Mr. WrestleMania” after a series of performances on The Grandest Stage Of Them All that puts him in a class of his own.
For a long time, the nickname Mr. WrestleMania had been one of the many bestowed upon two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels. From his legendary ladder match at WrestleMania 10 to his Iron Man masterpiece two years later to his tussle with Austin, his show stealer with Jericho, and his all-time classics with The Undertaker, the Heartbreak Kid raised the bar every time WrestleMania came around throughout his career.
Speaking on the Out Of Character podcast, the Swiss Cyborg Cesaro has named the man he thinks has taken over the Mr. WrestleMania mantle from Michaels – none other than his own WrestleMania 37 opponent, Seth Rollins:
“It felt right, to be in the ring with Seth, you know, who I shared the road with, who is I think I said it in the 24 as well, I think he is Mr. WrestleMania. All the stuff he’s achieved at WrestleMania that’s second to none. I think nobody can claim that.”
“The matches that he puts on every WrestleMania and SummerSlam as well, every time he gets in the ring, I think we are similar in that mindset, we always try to outdo each other. Obviously when we’re in different matches on the same show as well, but even when we’re in the same one, we try to get the best result possible. And I think we did that at WrestleMania.”
Rollins’ match with Cesaro in Raymond James Stadium was just the latest in a series of show-stealing performances from the former WWE Champion. In 2020 on a closed set inside the Performance Center, Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens through everything they had at one another in a hard-fought encounter. At WrestleMania 35, Rollins slayed the Beast in the opening contest as he defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship.
At WrestleMania 34, Rollins overcame The Miz and Finn Balor as he captured the Intercontinental Championship and at WrestleMania 33, Rollins played The Game and won as he defeated Triple H.
Perhaps Seth Rollins’ most memorable moment at WrestleMania came in 2015 in Levi’s Stadium. After stealing the show with a stellar bout against Randy Orton, Rollins stole more than that in the main event between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship. During the match, Rollins cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to turn the match into a Triple Threat affair with Rollins completing the “heist of the century” to capture his first WWE Championship.
