Things went from bad to worse for Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander on Raw as the former Raw Tag Team Champions split up.
A few months ago things were looking great for Benjamin and Alexander. They won the Raw Tag Team Titles in December at the TLC pay-per-view, defeating perennial champions The New Day in the process. As part of The Hurt Business with Bobby Lashley and MVP, they were part of an unstoppable quartet that held Raw in the palm of its hand.
Then things started to go wrong, very wrong, very quickly. Benjamin and Alexander lost the Raw Tag Team Championship on Raw in March. This only gave The Hurt Business the distinction of holding both the tag titles and the big prize of the WWE Championship for two weeks.
Kicked Out Of The Hurt Business
Lashley had won the WWE Title from The Miz in short order on the 1st of March edition of WWE’s flagship show. The All Mighty was not in a forgiving mood on-screen when Benjamin and Alexander began to lose more and more often.
On March 29th after Benjamin and Alexander had been defeated in a handicap match by Lashley’s WrestleMania challenger Drew McIntyre, Lashley attacked both men. He then proceeded to kick them out of The Hurt Business once and for all. Bobby Lashley has discussed how The Hurt Business splitting up ‘hurt his heart.’
Following that humiliation, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander continued teaming with one another. After losses to the Viking Raiders and R-K-Bro, the duo this week faced Lucha House Party. Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado condemned Benjamin and Alexander to another loss, and this was too much for Alexander to bear.
Taking to the microphone, Alexander blamed Shelton Benjamin for the loss and claimed he should’ve turned on his partner alongside Lashley and MVP. After running down Benjamin some more, Alexander declared that their tag team was done.
