Budding WWE star Carmelo Hayes has shared the WWE title perfect for his first win.

A multi-time Championship holder in NXT, Carmelo Hayes made his main-roster jump earlier this year. Since, his move to the main roster, Hayes has been a talking point amongst the fans. The former NXT Champion has impressed with his matches and mic work.

Recently involved in a feud with Andrade, the duo faced each other five times, with Andrade taking home three wins, and securing a shot at LA Knight’s United States Championship. Despite losing his shot at the US title, Hayes believes the title to be “perfect” for him. Speaking on The Ringer’s Masked Man Show, Hayes explained the reason behind his thoughts.

It’s inevitable. It’s my fate, it’s my destiny, you know what I mean? The United States championship, you look at all of the guys that held that previously, it’s the perfect first title for a guy. Especially a guy like me, who does take a lot of pride in my work rate. They talk about the mid card titles being the work rate titles, the Intercontinental and things like that.

I definitely take pride in my work, so I want to excel in other areas as well and I think that’s the perfect title to learn. To be in that position where you have people coming after you is the perfect time to learn, that’s why I think I enjoy being champion so much in NXT because it was like, you come for me, you come for me, and that makes me have to work harder.”

A workhorse, Hayes believes the US title to be a championship of the workhorses. He compared the title win to his former NXT Championship run, and how he enjoys the constant challenges.

Carmelo Hayes Takes Inspiration From This WWE Hall Of Famer

In a recent interview with Steven Muelhausen of Sports Illustrated, Carmelo Hayes opened up on the valuable advice WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels once provided him, and how he always takes inspiration from HBK.

A lot of my mindset is from Shawn. I always tell this analogy. He said, ‘You guys want to put your roof on so quickly without building the foundation, like the bricks and stuff.’ I always think about that. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m still laying down the bricks. Why am I worried about putting up windows when the bricks aren’t laid? Everybody wants the freaking roof and a chimney and start decorating the outside and painting the outside of the house when there’s no foundation’.

This is a period of building my foundation on SmackDown, and then, eventually, we’ll get to that point. We’ll put up a door. We’ll put in some windows, and then we’ll start working on a roof, and then we’ll have a storied career.”

Shawn Michaels also advised Hayes to always work hard, and be better at everything. He shared:

Yeah. He told me straight up. He said, ‘Look, because of your size, you can never take a day off. You have to be a little bit better at everything. You have to be’. I know I have a lot to work on. I won’t come in here and say, ‘I’m the top-notch’. I still have a lot to work on.”

Hayes has had an interesting WWE career till now, with multiple title wins in NXT, to an impressive start on the main roster.

In other news: The Rock has named four Hollywood legends who helped him during the early stages of his acting career.
