Former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Carmella says she’s “very proud” of the chaotic and unorthodox 2020 Money In The Bank Ladder Match held at WWE headquarters.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic WWE Money In The Bank was held across two locations. While the traditional in-ring matches were held at the WWE Performance Center, the ladder matches where held at Titan Towers. Both men’s and women’s ladder matches took place simultaneously as Superstars battled to climb the ‘corporate ladder.’
In a match that saw a food fight and cameo’s from the likes of Bruce Prichard, Asuka claimed the women’s briefcase, while Otis claimed the men’s.
One of the contestants in the chaos was former women’s champion Carmella. Speaking in a new interview with Rick Ucchino of Sportkeeda, Carmella recalled how difficult the filming of the match was, adding how she is “very proud” of the spectacle.
“It was just insane. It was just crazy. I mean watching it at home, I think I am very proud of that match. To be able to come together during the craziness of the pandemic and to know in WWE, no matter what, we always push through. We’re always doing what we can to make sure we give the fans the best possible experience.”
The match was a huge departure from the usual style of Ladder Match, but Carmella explained that the switch made it more entertaining.
“And you know it was different and I think different is good sometimes. It’s good to switch things up. It’s good to try new things. And that’s what we did with the ladder match and it was entertaining to watch. It was just really cool. Probably not gonna be another one, at least anytime soon.”
“So who knows when’s the next time something like that will happen, as far as the fight through the headquarters goes. Asuka’s jumping off balcony, I put Dana Brooke’s head through a picture. It was just really, really cool. That’s just WWE. Its just cool to see the cinematic vibe that they put out there and its really cool to be a part of it.”
Meanwhile, after finding herself thrust into championship contention, Carmella has continued to clash with Bianca Belair. After being defeated by the champion ahead of Money In The Bank, Carmella faced Belair in a rematch on the July 23rd edition of SmackDown at Rolling Loud Miami music festival.
However, despite the new surroundings, the result was the same as the former champion was once again defeated by Belair.
