Professional wrestling is a hazardous career. Putting one’s body through immense pain and physical stress usually leads to serious long-term effects. It isn’t uncommon to see retired wrestlers undergo multiple surgeries and have other struggles long after their in-ring careers end.
At the same time, wrestlers are still human and they experience unexpected conditions and occurrences within their own bodies, some of which aren’t even wrestling-related. Such was the case for Carmella, who ended up in a life-threatening situation far worse than anything she experienced in the ring.
“It’s insane to think about” – Carmella on possible complications of her pregnancy
Speaking on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast, Carmella recently spoke and explained that she discovered that a pregnancy developed incorrectly, which developed into a potential life-threatening situation.
“It was so difficult, because when it happened, I’m in the emergency room, actually had to take an ambulance to another emergency room for them to continue to diagnose exactly what had happened.
And once I realized that it was, in fact, an ectopic pregnancy, which means it’s in your not to get super technical, but it’s in your fallopian tube, not in your uterus. So at any point, basically, it can explode, and you can bleed to death, which is insane to think about.”
An ectopic pregnancy isn’t always easy to identify or even notice. In rare cases, it doesn’t show any sort of symptoms, and in other cases, someone showing symptoms might not have medical signs of ectopic pregnancy. In other words, one might have symptoms but not meet the criteria to be diagnosed with the condition.
Carmella’s last match was last week at WWE Elimination Chamber in the eponymous match. She lasted until the final two until she was eliminated by Asuka.
