Candice LeRae has earned herself a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver following her victory in the #1 contenders battle royal that aired earlier tonight on the September 23rd edition of NXT. LeRae will face off against reigning champion Io Shirai in what will be her third title defence since defeating both Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley at NXT TakeOver:In Your House earlier this year.
“The Poison Pixie” of NXT lastly eliminated Shotzi Blackheart to win the battle royal before celebrating in vintage LeRae over exuberant fashion with Gargano there to cheer her.

LeRae and Shirai have a storied rivalry in NXT that goes all the way back to July 2019 when the latter attacked her long time friend following a failed attempted to capture the NXT Women’s Championship from then champion Shayna Baszler. The two would go on to have a critically acclaimed match at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in which Shirai picked up the win inside fifteen minutes.
Now over a year removed with the roles reversed and LeRae fully embracing the “Gargano Way” it will be interesting to see if the result of the match changes or if Shirai will continue her famed title reign going into Survivor Series season.
NXT Takeover is set to air live on the WWE Network on October 4th available for $9.99.
