During his time in WWE, the Undertaker witnessed and was part of some of the greatest storytelling that the company has ever produced. The storyline introduction of his ‘brother’ Kane remains the stuff of legend, while his WrestleMania matches with Shawn Michaels were woven together in a way that is still praised by fans to this day.
Since finally hanging up his famous boots and black hat, The Undertaker now gets to sit on the other side of the divide and watch the action unfold as a fan. It turns out that much like vast sections of WWE’s fandom, he’s also loving the dynamic between The Bloodline and Sami Zayn. The story took a new turn at Survivor Series with Roman Reigns and Jey Uso, finally accepting Zayn into the group after he turned his back on former best friend Kevin Owens.
“It’s Great Storytelling” – The Undertaker
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, The Deadman commented on how the story is being built, and praised all involved for how they’re executing it.
“Sami’s character is so intriguing in that whole mix,” says Mark Calaway, who became a legendary figure during his three decades performing as The Undertaker. “It is very clear who The Bloodline is and what they stand for, and they go out and do their deal. But adding Sami, that gives so many more layers. Plus, you have that tension between Sami, The Usos and Roman. It works so well.”
The Undertaker added that while Zayn has also added to The Bloodline, they’ve helped make him a bigger star than he has ever been.
“Sami is a vital part of the whole thing, and he’s never been a bigger star,” Calaway says. “But this is also important for The Bloodline. It gives them something new. Roman has been champion for over two years. That means he has to go out and beat everyone he faces, right? That’s tough. But it’s a new dynamic with Sami in there.”
“How can you not enjoy this?” Calaway says. “It’s great storytelling.”
It was recently reported that Roman Reigns could be heading for a clash with Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble before taking on Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber a month later.
