Cameron Grimes Wins NXT North American Championship

Cameron Grimes celebrates winning NXT North American Title

At NXT Stand & Deliver, Cameron Grimes scored an emotional win to claim the NXT North American Championship for the first time.

Multi-man Ladder Matches have a reputation for being chaotic affairs and this one was no different. Bodies flew left and right, both inside and outside the ring.

While Grimes was being pushed forward by the memory of his father, Santos Escobar was also a man on a mission. After meeting Solo Sikoa at the top of a ladder, he delivered a Sunset Powerbomb, which saw his rival crash into a ladder positioned in the corner of the ring.

With everyone laid out, Trick Williams set up a ladder in the middle of the ring to try and claim the title for his charge Carmelo Hayes. But despite getting within touching distance of the gold, Grimes tipped up the ladder, launching Williams to the floor.

After more chaos, Grayson Waller climbed a ladder on the outside before launching himself off in an effort crush Hayes, but he painfully missed. The champion made it back into the ring but was thwarted by Escobar, who in turn was headed off by Grimes with a Cave In.

This left Grimes free to climb the ladder to the moon and to victory, to become the North American Champion.

On the March 1st episode of NXT 2.0, Carmelo Hayes announced that he would be defending his North American Title in a Ladder Match at Stand & Deliver. In the weeks that followed, Solo Sikoa, Grayson Waller and Santos Escobar won their way into the match. Escobar earning his spot at the expense of Cameron Grimes, who said that he had promised his late father that he would become champion.

However, all was not lost as Grimes, A-Kid and Roderick Strong had one last chance to qualify just days ahead of WrestleMania weekend. After a frantic bout, it was Grimes who kept his championship dreams alive by pinning Strong in the middle of the ring.

The defeat at Stand & Deliver, brought Carmelo’s reign to an end after 172 days, having won the title back in October 2021.
