Cameron Grimes has shared an emotional message with a fan who reached out to say that Grimes had helped her after the loss of her father.
On-screen Grimes is a brash billionaire after cashing in on some ‘meme stocks’ and cryptocurrency. He’s captured the imagination of the NXT fans with his new character especially after his series of run-ins with WWE’s original money man, The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Those run-ins led to a ladder match for Grimes at NXT TakeOver: In Your House. The North Carolinian faced LA Knight for the chance to be crowned the first new Million Dollar Champion in over a decade.
In a hard-hitting, high-falling contest the cocky Knight made sure everyone knew he was no dummy [yeah!] as he climbed the golden ladder to retrieve the title belt.
Before TakeOver, however, Cameron Grimes joined Busted Open Radio for a chat. Host and ECW icon Tommy Dreamer told Grimes a story that came to him from a fan named Lindsay. Lindsay had told Dreamer that a promo from Grimes had helped after the death of her father. Sadly, Grimes can relate to that story, having lost his own dad in 2018.
Grimes thanked Dreamer and the fan for telling the story and responded:
“Literally just hearing that, I’m crying. I’m really crying. A lot of people don’t know this, a lot of people do know this. When I was told that I was getting signed to the WWE, I called my father, who was a solo father that raised me by myself. I called him and I said ‘Tracy, I made it to the WWE.’ And we just cried our eyes out. And that phone call, that was the last time I talked to my father.”
“The very next week, he passed away. I live this dream now, in his memory. And the fact that Lindsay, that you had to go through that moment. And I hope that you’re watching this now. That you had to go through that moment, and the fact that you saw this goofy guy, Cameron Grimes, right here. And you loved it and it just made you feeling just a little bit better. Lindsay I’ve got tears in my eyes right now just thinking it. Thank you so much Lindsay, and thank you Tommy for telling me that.”
Grimes’ father was professional wrestler and promoter Tracy Cadell. Caddell helped found the OMEGA promotion alongside current AEW star Matt Hardy.
