WWE Hall Of Famer Bully Ray says that former United States Champion Cesaro is the most underutilised wrestler currently in WWE.
Bully Ray was speaking on Busted Open Master’s Class podcast, alongside AEW’s Mark Henry and former ECW star Tommy Dreamer when the conversation turned to underutilised stars in the pro wrestling business.
For the former tag team specialist Bully Ray, there was one name at the top of that list:
“Most underutilised talent, to me, is Cesaro. Cesaro is a workhorse. Cesaro is one of the best wrestlers, but most importantly, one of the best workers on the planet. It’s impossible to have a bad match with Cesaro. Go back and watch the matches that Cesaro and Cena had years ago.”
“The one thing that impressed me – and Mark (Henry), you’ll probably be able to understand better than even myself or Tommy (Dreamer) – it’s the muscular endurance. 20, 25, 30 minutes deep, when John Cena is doing things like jumping off the top rope – and John Cena is what, 235 to 250 pounds of solid muscle, that’s moving at you, very rapidly – and Cesaro would catch him out of mid-air, throw him on top of his shoulders. You need incredible muscular endurance to do that first of all, and then to execute the move safely.”
Cesaro built a reputation for himself in Ring Of Honor under his real name of Claudio Castagnoli before joining WWE in 2011, initally wrestling in the developmental territory FCW. The Swiss star then debuted on the WWE main roster in 2012, going on to become United States Champion in short order.
Cesaro proved himself to be something of a tag team specialist in WWE, holding tag team gold seven times in the company with a variety of partners including Tyson Kidd, Shinsuke Nakamura, and most memorably, Sheamus.
Despite his tenure in the company and success in the ring, The Swiss Cyborg has only received one opportunity to wrestle for a world title in WWE. That came at WrestleMania Backlash in 2021 when Cesaro unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.
