WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has launched a stinging attack against GCW and its King of Ultraviolence, Nick Gage.
Game Changer Wrestling has made a name for itself as one of the most successful modern independent promotions in the United States. Gaining popularity through the likes of Joey Janela, Nick Gage, and even Matt Cardona, GCW has become known for its hardcore style.
Older wrestling fans may well remember a gritty, hardcore promotion based in Philadelphia, PA where a young Bully Ray cut his teeth in the nineties.
Speaking to NBC Sports Boston, Bully Ray launched a verbal volley against GCW and says the promotion and its wrestlers will never compare to ECW:
“Oh my God, please. Please! Awful … You had the CZW garbage bag wrestlers; you have the GCW garbage bag wrestlers all trying to ride the coattails or capture some of the glory of what ECW created back in the day. Your company will never be ECW; your wrestlers will never be ECW wrestlers. Please, stop. Do something different. And here’s the thing, these companies like GCW, they have no backbone because they stay away from the guys they know can truly expose them.”
Bully Ray singled out former GCW Champion Nick Gage for special attention and questions why he wasn’t part of the Bunkhouse Battle Royal at Ric Flair’s Last Match which Bully Ray competed in, losing to another GCW star, Mance Warner:
“Nick Gage had the balls to show up at Starrcast with all the GCW guys? Mind you, I eliminated every single one of them. Yeah, Mance Warner got the best of me at the end of the day; good job, Mance, but I eliminated every GCW guy. You saw Nick Gage come to the battle royal. You see Nick Gage get in the Battle Royal with me? Why not? Because he’s a pu**y. If Nick Gage truly wanted a piece of me, he would have been in the ring.”
Whether or not Bully Ray really feels like this or if this is leading to a showdown between GCW and Bully Ray on a future show remains to be seen.
