Buff Bagwell Says Johnny Gargano Made Him Eat His Words

Johnny Gargano Tommaso Ciampa Candice LeRae

Former WWE and WCW star Buff Bagwell has admitted that Johnny Gargano has proved him wrong after he once told the former NXT Champion he was too small to make it.

For five years Johnny Gargano was the rebel heartbeat of NXT as he swept the board on the brand winning everything there was to win. Gargano’s time on the black and gold brand began as one half of DIY with fellow brand stalwart Tommaso Ciampa. Together the pair captured the NXT Tag Team Championship before Ciampa viciously turned on Gargano.

Gargano went on to capture the NXT North American Championship in January 2019 when he defeated Ricochet for the gold. At NXT TakeOver: New York just three months later, Johnny Gargano finally captured the NXT Championship, defeating Adam Cole in a Two Out Of Three Falls Match to win what had been an elusive prize for Johnny Wrestling.

Latterly Gargano formed The Way with his wife Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell, and Austin Theory but as the black and gold era gave way to NXT 2.0 Johnny Gargano’s time in WWE was coming to a close. Gargano competed in his last match for the company at NXT WarGames where as part of Team Black & Gold he lost to the up and coming talents of Team 2.0 led by Bron Breakker.

Now former WCW Tag Team Champion Buff Bagwell has revealed he had Gargano on his mind as he watched GCW’s Devil In A New Dress show. Bagwell took to social media to admit that Johnny Gargano’s success had made The Stuff eat his words:

“I once told @JohnnyGarganohe was too small to make it in the business, and now I’m eating those words. Things have evolved since my “era” and I’m not mad about it because this is some good stuff #GCWDevil”

Buff Bagwell has been a controversial figure over the years but more recently has re-established a social media presence that has seen him become an ardent public supporter of the LGBTQ community proving that Buff Daddy is for everyone.
