WWE Hall Of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley has relived one of the wildest nights he recalled from being on the road as a group of WWE Superstars were faced with an unlikely scene.
Bubba Ray Dudley, now better known by his post-WWE name of Bully Ray, was a guest on Stories With Brisco and Bradshaw alongside his fellow WWE Hall Of Famers, John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield and Gerald Brisco. During the appearance, Dudley and JBL reminisced about one of the craziest nights they can recall from being on the road during their time in the wrestling business and how they were left bemused by what was going on in a local hotel.
Bubba Ray Dudley began:
“I remember coming down into the lobby to pick up my food and I look into the bar and I see [JBL] in the bar and you have this blank look on your face, like the thousand-yard stare that a marine gets. You’re just looking across the bar and you’re like ‘Bubba come here’ and you called me into the bar.”
This was enough to jog JBL’s memory and he picked up the baton:
“It was in Iowa. It was in the country because we were in the middle of nowhere. It was a transvestite, dress-up convention but it was like farm guys. It wasn’t like guys who were trying to look like women, it was like big six-foot four-inch burly guys who looked like they’d just got off a tractor and they’re all wearing dresses, high heels, everything. The whole bar’s full of them and I’m sitting there just looking trying to figure out what’s going on.”
“I can’t believe it and that’s when I called Bubba over, I said ‘Bubba come here, you gotta look at this.’ So we’re sitting there looking at them, then I call Taker, I said ‘you gotta come downstairs, I don’t know what’s going on, you gotta come see this.’ He goes ‘I’m in bed,’ I said ‘come downstairs!’ So he came downstairs and all the boys come down there. So now you got all the wrestlers on one side and you’ve got all these farmboys in dresses on the other side and we’re all looking at each other. They’re pointing at us going ‘look that’s the wrestlers’ and we’re pointing at them going ‘those are farmboys for some reason in dresses.’ It was the craziest thing ever.”
After the initial confusion, JBL went on to say that once the two groups mixed, everybody had a great night:
“We started talking to them and they were funny guys so the next thing you know all the wrestlers are sitting with all the guys dressed up and nobody gave a sh*t about nothing. We had the best night that night with all those guys.”
