Bryan Danielson has explained why being the top guy in AEW is not something that greatly concerns him.
Bryan Danielson is currently competing in the AEW Grand Slam Tournament of Champions, where the winner will be crowned the new AEW World Champion.
The World Champion of a wrestling company is often seen as the top guy on the roster, but Danielson recently admitted to Justin Barrasso during an interview with Sports Illustrated, that being seen as a locker leader is not particular important to him:
“For me, it’s not about being the top guy. I don’t care about that. And it’s not about leading the locker room. You can be a leader without the title. I like the feeling of big championship matches. Championship matches are my favourite kind of matches to wrestle. It’s a different feeling from anything else”
However, the American Dragon did clarify that he is excited about the AEW World Championship Tournament:
“This is an opportunity to create more excitement. I’m pretty pumped about the title tournament. It just lends gravity to all these matches. I’m really excited”
Prior to his semi-final victory over Chris Jericho on last night’s Dynamite, Danielson spoke of his desire to become a World Champion again in the future:
“I want to be world champion because being in championship matches is unlike anything else. Those matches, they’ve got a different tension. I love the feeling of a big title match. Those are the feelings and emotions I’m chasing”
Due to his win over Jericho, Bryan Danielson is now set to battle fellow Blackpool Combat Club member Jon Moxley for the vacant AEW World Championship at next Wednesday’s Dynamite Grand Slam event at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
