Bryan Danielson has commented on Vince McMahon.
Prior to joining AEW in September 2021, Danielson was a part of WWE for over a decade. Ending on great terms with the company, Danielson published a letter in The Players’ Tribune titled Thank You WWE, Danielson thanked the stars of the company, those behind the scenes and “The Big Man” in reference to McMahon:
“Thank you to the Big Man, who I know hates to be acknowledged. I won’t say much, but thank you for the conversations, the life lessons (about both what to do and what not to do), and the best hug I’ve ever received. I wish more people could see you how I see you.”
Since the letter was published, a lot has changed in the world of wrestling and Vince McMahon is viewed very differently after the former Chairman resigned after being accused of sexual misconduct and trafficking by former employee Janel Grant. In addition to McMahon, WWE and John Laurinaitis are also named as defendants in the lawsuit.
Speaking with Gorilla Position, Danielson was asked about how his feelings have changed in light of the allegations:
“First and foremost, I want to say people that have been hurt are in a way worse position than I am. My empathy goes to them. There’s not a lot I want to say about it, honestly, because it’s not just the Vince piece, but my father-in-law [John Laurinaitis], or maybe ex-father-in-law, as far as that kind of stuff goes.
You think of somebody in some way, and then something happens and it changes. And that’s always hard. But like I said, as hard as that may be for me emotionally … It’s way worse for people who have been victimized by people in power.”
