Bryan Danielson is concerned about restarting a classic rivalry in AEW.
Looking at winding down his career and checking off as many dream matches as possible, one dream match that many have wanted to see for a long time is between The American Dragon and Nigel McGuinness. Fans familiar with their work in Ring of Honor and their rivalry from 2006 to 2009. Although the match has the potential to be an instant classic, especially if it took place in Wembley Stadium as thousands of fans cheered on British wrestler McGuinness, Danielson does have some concerns.
Appearing on The Wrestling Classic podcast, Danielson is very aware that it is nearly 15 years since their last encounter and is aware of what is expected of them both:
“It’s interesting because obviously I would love to wrestle Nigel,” Danielson said. “I get afraid of fan expectations, of what it would be, because I don’t know how many people have actually seen our matches, but it’s like they were very physical matches…That’s the thing I would be afraid of, is people’s expectations of what they think it should be.”
Continuing, Danielson admitted that if it were to take place at All In then the pressure would be off:
“If you were to do Wembley with me and Nigel, the nice thing is we wouldn’t be the main event for sure, so if we could go on first or second, first would be amazing.”
