NXT has a new North American Champion as Bronson Reed defeated reigning champion, Johnny Gargano, inside a steel cage.
Reed survived attempted interference from Garagano’s partner in The Way, Austin Theory, on his way to claiming his first title on the black and gold brand. Reed hit Gargano with a splash as the first NXT Triple Crown winner was attempting to crawl to the cage door and escape. Bronson Reed then followed that up with a huge splash from the top turnbuckle for the pinfall victory.
Reed celebrated with his new title in the ring as NXT on the USA Network went off the air but WWE has released footage of Reed celebrating with his wife and giving an emotional speech.
“Thank you, everyone that’s here, thank you. That’s all of you fans that come here and always support us guys. To the people at the commentary desk, thank you. To everyone in the back, thank you. Everyone that believed in me to get where I am today, but most of all, thank you to my wife, Paige.”
“It’s hard being the wife of a pro wrestler, especially the past 14 years when I had zero dollars in the bank. She supported me and this is the reason why now I’m living my dream, and I am the new North American Champion! The Colossal Era of NXT has begun.”
His win makes Bronson Reed the ninth different NXT North American Champion since the title was introduced at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans in 2018. Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole claimed the victory in a six-man ladder match and was crowned the inaugural holder of the NXT North American Title.
Reed’s title reign is also notable as this makes him the third Australian superstar to currently hold gold in WWE. Indi Hartwell is currently one half of the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions with Rhea Ripley holding the Raw Women’s Title that she won at WrestleMania.
