Brock Lesnar has not wrestled since losing to Cody Rhodes at WWE SummerSlam 2023. The UFC legend recently returned to decimate John Cena at the end of the latter’s final SummerSlam, and now the two ring greats are set to lock up once again. Sources have revealed an interesting tidbit on Lesnar and how this will impact upcoming storylines.
The Beast Incarnate and Big Match John will do battle one last time as a part of Cena’s Farewell Tour. The actual date and location of the match remains up in the air, but this will be their final encounter after sharing the ring on 40 occasions since becoming full-time WWE Superstars after impressing as members of The OVW 4 with Batista and Randy Orton.
Lesnar is said to be a big fan of stipulation matches, according to a report from Boozer. It’s still early in the process, and plans for Cena vs. Lesnar are not being finalized just yet, but different ideas are being discussed. WWE’s creative team has pitched multiple stipulations for the final in-ring showdown of the two legends, and it looks like their last outing could be a gimmick match. It was noted that the two main stipulations being considered were No Holds Barred and Last Man Standing.
Brock Lesnar and John Cena have had just one singles bout held under a stipulation. WWE Extreme Rules in April 2012 saw The Cenation Leader defeat the former UFC Heavyweight Champion in an Extreme Rules Match that went almost 18 minutes.
Brock Lesnar And John Cena Are No Strangers To Stipulations
Brock Lesnar has worked just one Last Man Standing Match in his career. SummerSlam 2022 saw The Beast fail to dethrone then-dual champion Roman Reigns in almost 25 minutes. The Conqueror lost a No Holds Barred bout to Triple H at WrestleMania 29, then beat Dean Ambrose under the stipulation at WrestleMania 32. His last NHB match was a win over Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series 2019 to retain the WWE Championship.
Cena has worked around two dozen Last Man Standing bouts over the years, with wins over Umaga, Batista, and Bray Wyatt, plus losses to Edge and Alberto Del Rio. John’s last match under the stipulation was the Payback 2014 win over Bray Wyatt. Cena has worked 8 No Holds Barred Matches, with wins over Edge, Lita, and Jack Swagger, plus a loss to Dean Ambrose, which was his final bout under that stipulation on RAW in October 2014.
John Cena will wrestle Logan Paul at WWE Clash In Paris on August 31. Brock Lesnar has not been announced for an upcoming match, but he will be at SmackDown on September 12 and 19.
