After dominating the WWE landscape for two years Brock Lesnar decided it was time for a change. This led the star to attempt to launch an NFL, (which nearly succeeded) before heading to the UFC.
While his first fight, against Frank Mir no less, ended in defeat, Lesnar quickly bounced back and overcame Heath Herring and then Randy Couture to win the Heavyweight Title. However, a number of health issues quickly derailed his progress and Lesnar left the octagon in 2011 following back to back defeats to Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem. Despite this, the star was lured back in 2016 and defeated Mark Hunt before the fight was declared a No Contest following a failed drugs test.
“I’m Too Old” – Brock Lesnar
Speaking to the New Yok Post in March Lesnar revealed that the door to MMA is now firmly “closed,” although he was quick to praise both Dana White, the Fertitta brothers [Lorenzo and Frank] who were “exceptional to him.”
The star gave a blunt assessment when explaining his decision, commenting that he is simply “too old” calling UFC a “young man’s sport.” The former champion said that he was now simply “Brock Lesnar, WWE Superstar.”
At the time, Brock Lesnar was preparing to appear at the iconic Madison Square Garden. The venue has always held special significance for WWE, often being described as “home.” Touching on this appearance, Lesnar said that now-former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon impressed upon him the importance of ‘The Garden.’
“I’ve developed a relationship with Vince about it, and I like New York, and I like coming to the city, and I like coming down and putting some ass whoopings down,” Lesnar said. “I enjoy it. I like to come and eat a good steak in the city, and the Garden has a sentimental effect on me too.”
Brock Lesnar hasn’t wrestled since defeating Bobby Lashley at WWE Crown Jewel on November 5th. It is unclear when he will return to the ring.
