In recent weeks, rumours have begun circulating that Brock Lesnar is set for a mammoth clash with the current WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther at WrestleMania 39.
The potential match has long been a dream bout for many fans with Brock Lesnar having dominated WWE for many years while the relative newcomer Gunther has been undefeated on the main roster since debuting in April 2022.
One man who sees a lot of potential in the match-up is legendary manager, Jim Cornette.
Jim Cornette believes Gunther should defeat Brock Lesnar
During a recent edition of his ‘Experience’ podcast, Cornette explained that it was not only a great match, but could be a big help for Gunther.
“It’s too early for me to be optimistic. I saw that on Twitter, but I don’t know what source it came from. I’ve talked about in the past, that would be a great match-up, and it would help Gunther especially if Brock is into it and works on getting him over.”
Cornette went on to compare Brock Lesnar and Gunther, saying that despite their different styles they both have a legitimacy missing from a lot of other WWE stars.
“But they’re really, even though they’re completely different people and completely different styles, et cetera, et cetera, they’re two of the only guys in the WWE that really should work with each other because they’re two of the only guys that are never phoney or goofy or winking at people.
“They’re completely legitimate and how they act as themselves and what they do. Everybody knows that Brock’s the real deal, which has enhanced his reputation and aura and, as Finkel would say, demeanour.
“And Gunther, I’ve said is the most perfect wrestler in the business today for wrestling and working and talking and doing things that he should do if he was really who he is purported to be. And they’re both physical, and they can both hit and they can both work.”
Cornette believes it would be the ideal time for Brock Lesnar to take a loss as it would elevate Gunther to new heights.
“I think it would be great and that could elevate especially, I know they don’t do it often, but they have had Brock do a job or two and I would f*cking have Brock Lesnar put Gunther over. I think that would be a big f*cking deal.”
