At AEW Dynamite St Patrick’s Day Slam Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa faced off in what has become one of the most talked about matches in any promotion in 2021.
Competing in a brutal Unsanctioned Lights Out Match in the main event of the show, Britt Baker and her long-time rival Thunder Rosa left no stone unturned in their pursuit of violence. The pair utilised tables, chairs, ladders and thumbtacks in what quickly became a blood-soaked battle of will and bravery.
The match finally came to a suitably destructive conclusion as Thunder Rosa hit the Fire and Thunder Driver from the ring apron to the floor, through a table, to clinch the victory.
In the days that followed the brawl it became the joint highest rated United States based women’s match in history in the Wrestling Observer.
The match received a 4.75* rating from Dave Melter matching the rating given to the 2018 WWE Evolution clash between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch.
However, appearing on the Oral Sessions podcast with Renee Paquette, Baker has revealed that she feels a little hard done by, branding Melzer a “S**thead.”
“He’s such a sh*thead. 4.75 Dave I mean come on! What do I have to cut my leg off for the extra? But it’s OK we’ll give it another go another time.”
The bout is also notable for being the first women’s match to headline an edition of AEW Dynamite. On top of this, it is also only the second women’s match to main event any AEW show since the company’s inception, with Maki Itoh vs Riho on Dark: Elevation’s inaugural episode taking home that prestigious honour earlier the same week.
