Britt Baker Says Sasha Banks & Bayley Paved The Way For Her

Britt Baker

Dr. Britt Baker has named two of her ultimate dream opponents, with the Role Model of AEW naming another role model among her picks.

Baker has lit the wrestling world on fire as the undisputed face of AEW’s women’s division. The dentist put the crown on her self-proclaimed title when she defeated longest-reigning AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida for the title at Double Or Nothing in May 2021.

Now speaking during a panel at Steel City Comic Con, Britt Baker was asked who her dream opponents in the ring would be. For Baker, two names stood out, although for either match to ever happen would mean a seismic shift in the wrestling world.

Baker stated:

“Probably Bayley or Sasha [Banks], it’d have to be one of them. Those are two of my role models that I watched when I was first training to be a wrestler. That was five years ago. When I was training, they were main eventing NXT TakeOver. That was when the tides were turning and they kind of paved the way for my generation of wrestling. Even though they are still in my generation, they came before me.”

Bayley and Sasha Banks put the wrestling world on notice when they faced each other at the original NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015 for the NXT Women’s Title. On that occasion, Bayley won her first gold on the black and gold brand by defeating Banks in a barnstormer of a match.

At NXT TakeOver: Respect in October 2015 the two women found themselves going head-to-head once again but this time as the main event in a 30-Minute Iron Woman match. Once again Bayley came out on top, winning the tightly fought contest 3-2.

Since their days on NXT Banks and Bayley have held every title available to them in WWE including two reigns together as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Sasha Banks was in rarefied air at WrestleMania 37 when she and Bianca Belair became the 4th and 5th women to ever headline a WrestleMania. Britt Baker no doubt has her sights set on the main event in AEW as she has no shortage of challengers for her AEW Women’s Title.
