AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker says she’s waiting for the day someone can match her at being a master of the microphone.
Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. is no stranger to cutting a mean promo. Alongside her good friend Tony Schiavone, who she credits with helping her achieve success, the wrestling dentist has often been part of the most entertaining segments on AEW Dynamite and Rampage.
Speaking to Inside the Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh for issue 16 of Inside the Ropes Magazine, the Pittsburgh native said that she’s waiting for other members of the women’s division to step up their mic work, but adds that her war of words with Ruby Soho was her favorite because of the fire Ruby brought to the show.
I pray for the day when someone can hang with me on the mic in the women’s division. That’s how I feel about that right now. I will say, Ruby was pretty fiery—I think that was one of my favourite back-and-forth promos that I’ve ever had. Other than that, I encourage the women’s division to step up on the mic. Come at me, because I’ll give it back ten times better. I think they already know that.
The promo in question took place on the September 17th episode of AEW Rampage. Ruby Soho had just recently made her AEW debut at All Out and looked to challenge Britt Baker for her AEW Women’s Championship. Baker mocked Ruby for having multiple recent name changes and being fired from the WWE, but Ruby declared that getting fired was the best thing to happen to her and accused the champion of having her head “up Tony Khan’s a**.”
The two faced off in a championship match in the main event of AEW Grand Slam on September 22, 2021. Britt Baker’s allies Jamie Hayter and Rebel interfered in the match, and despite her best efforts, Ruby Soho was unable to overcome the numbers game and failed to dethrone the champion.
Elsewhere in the interview, Britt Baker talked about WWE’s interest in signing her and explained why she doesn’t feel she can trust that company.
