Britt Baker addresses her 2024 AEW Forbidden Door return from earlier this year.
At the 2024 Forbidden Door PPV on June 30th this year, fans witnessed the return of former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker after almost 11 months. Towards the closing stages of the show, Mercedes Mone faced Stephanie Vaquer in a winner-takes-all match for the TBS and the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.
As the match concluded with Mone standing tall, fans heard Baker’s music hit as the former Women’s Champion came out and shared a staredown with the current TBS Champion. In a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful before her Dynamite return, Baker opened up on her “nervous” return to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
I was about to throw up. I told Tony, ‘I’m going to throw up.’ I was in Gorilla and he’s like, ‘Why?’ ‘I don’t think they are going to care.’ He’s like, ‘That’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever said.’ I was really concerned and nervous that the fans were not going to care at all. I think that is anybody’s fear when you’re gone for so long, what feels like an eternity. For a lot of fans, our sense of time and their sense of time is very different.
Every week you’re at home feels like a year. For them, it flys by. It was one of the most nervous moments I’ve ever (had) because I had no control. It wasn’t a match that I could contribute to or make worth or have a great spot or shitty spot. I had no control. All I was doing was walking out. It’s not a promo where I could twist and turn the words to make it one way or another, just walking out. What more could you do except hope and pray that fans remember you, miss you, and give a shit.”

Upon her return, Baker started a feud with Mone and faced her at All In 2024 in a losing cause. The former champion was again been absent since then before her eventual return earlier this week.
Recently it has been revealed why AEW hasn’t announced the Forbidden Door 2025 venue.
Britt Baker Addresses AEW Absence Since Her All In Loss Against Mercedes Mone
In an interview with TVInsider, Britt Baker opened up on her absence from the roster. Her match at All In drew mixed reviews, and Baker went missing before her match at Dynamite’s 5th anniversary.
I guess in a lot of ways I can’t other than I lost, so back of the line. I can’t think of how many times I’ve said that to girls in my promos when I was champion. Back of the line. It’s a harsh reality when you’re in that position.”
On Dynamite’s 5th anniversary on 2nd October, Baker returned to action and defeated Serena Deeb in 11 minutes.
