Britt Baker And AEW Reportedly Done, Tony Khan Resisting Release Due To WWE Evolution

AEW's Tony Khan and Britt Baker, WWE's Triple H and Nick Khan

The AEW status of Britt Baker has been a hot topic of discussion within the wrestling world for the past year or so. Shocking new developments have emerged from backstage, and now the situation between Baker and Tony Khan may be irreparable.

DMD Baker is an AEW Original, and a one-time Women’s World Champion. The 2022 Owen Hart Cup winner has not wrestled since Dynamite on November 13, where she defeated Penelope Ford in just under 9 minutes that night.

Baker’s win over Ford was just her fifth match of 2024. The fan-favorite has been surrounded in controversy for much of her AEW run, with various behind-the-scenes issues. A dentist in real-life, Baker has found significant success in AEW, but her run has been marred by injuries and other happenings. Despite rumors on a potential exit, Baker and Khan have remained friends, but it’s not clear how the internal issues have impacted their relationship.

Baker recently fueled more rumors and speculation with cryptic social media posts, which came after significant talk from within WWE. A new Bodyslam report notes how the situation between Baker and AEW has been building behind-the-scenes, and now things are starting to develop on a more formal stage.

Britt Baker Reportedly Trying To Leave AEW

Britt Baker is actively trying to leave AEW, according to a new report from Bodyslam.net. This is in line with rumors and speculation for at least the last year, and with a narrative that emerged following recent social media posts by the 34-year-old.

Tony Khan does not want to release Baker from her contract. However, Baker reportedly feels like there’s nothing left worth keeping her in AEW, acknowledging how bridges were burned, and a feeling that the All Elite environment surrounding her has changed.

AEW officials are seemingly worried about Baker potentially revealing her WWE contract in conjunction with any upcoming show in Pittsburgh, or making a big appearance at Evolution II on July 13. The report points to an internal belief on how Khan and his team do not want to let the Baker situation progress until Evolution II has passed, and they’re hoping WWE does not announce any upcoming show in “Brittsburgh” before the matter moves forward.

It remains to be seen how the AEW-Britt Baker situation will end, and if the two sides will quietly part ways, or if a more controversial situation will unfold. The latest update from Bodyslam notes that the door appears to be more shut more than ever before.
