Dr. Britt Baker DMD has discussed her boyfriend Adam Cole crossing wrestling’s divide and joining AEW and says she doesn’t think Cole regrets his decision.
Adam Cole shocked the system and the wrestling world when he made his unannounced AEW debut towards the end of their All Out pay-per-view in September 2021. Just weeks before Cole had been a part of NXT and had headlined NXT TakeOver: 36 with his partner turned rival Kyle O’Reilly.
Speaking exclusively to Inside the Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh for issue 16 of Inside the Ropes Magazine, AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker gave her thoughts on Adam Cole joining her in AEW and says there was never any pressure from her for Cole to become All Elite:
“It was kind of a tricky situation because I’m also good friends with Tony Khan and I admire him no end as a boss because he’s such a joy to work for. So, obviously, I wanted him to come work here, but I didn’t want to pressure him because he wasn’t unhappy at NXT either at that time.”
“I didn’t want to put pressure on him one way or another, so I kinda left that up to him.”
“But he, from the outside, he knew what AEW was about because when we live together and he hears me talk about it all the time. He knew how much fun it was. I think, deep down, he always wanted to come to AEW, he just needed to get his ducks in a row and make a decision. And I can tell you now, I definitely don’t think he regrets it.”
The power couple of AEW recently teamed up on Dynamite where they defeated the team of Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander. Cassidy inadvertently sent Baker through a table in the match, leading to a familiar challenge from Cole.
Adam Cole is set to follow in Britt Baker’s footsteps when he competes in a Lights Out match at AEW Beach Break against Cassidy. Baker’s own Lights Out match at St. Patrick’s Day Slam against Thunder Rosa propelled Baker to the top of the women’s division in AEW despite taking a loss in the bout.
