Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz has revealed that a pitch from “Paul Heyman’s protégé” for Torrie Wilson to appear nude led to him and the former ECW boss getting suspended.
There have been some bizarre creative pitches in WWE history, and that’s just the ones that made it to television.
However, for every idea that makes it onto WWE programming there are numerous which get consigned to the writers room floor. Writing in his new book, “There’s Just One Problem…” former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz has lifted the lid on some of these scarcely believable pitches.
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Gewirtz recalled one pitch that caused a confrontation between himself and Paul Heyman which led to both men being suspended. The ex-WWE writer revealed that the idea came from a “Paul Heyman protégé.” Everyone had been expecting some kind of long-term, high-concept angle, and instead, the pitch was for Torrie Wilson to appear nude on TV.
“That was what Paul’s protégé at the time was proposing, and that was what kind of precipitated the big confrontation because we were all led to believe that this was going to be some high concept long-term storyline, unbelievable angle, and then it was basically proposed that through various coverings and slights of camera that it would be a naked Torrie Wilson on camera.”
Gewirtz added that he found the entire idea “ludicrous.”
“That’s when I scoffed at that idea and found it to be ludicrous,” Gewirtz continued. “That form of disrespect is what prompted the pinch fight heard around the world.”
The “pinch fight” that Gewirtz referred to is a slap fight between himself and Heyman that erupted during the meeting. The confrontation ended with both men being suspended for a week.
