Brian Cage Reportedly Staying With AEW

Brian Cage

A new report claims that Brian Cage will be sticking around in AEW, despite long-running rumours that he’s on his way out.

Having not appeared on AEW programming since the start of October, Brian Cage’s future with the Tony Khan-helmed promotion has been up in the air ever since. The overall belief, though, was that “The Machine” would be departing AEW, that is until a new Fightful Select report stated the opposite.

The report says that Cage, who’s a couple of months away from celebrating two years with the company, will be sticking around after AEW picked up the option year on his contract. This is what went around backstage at Wednesday (23 February) Dynamite and Rampage tapings, with Cage spilling the news to those close to him.

Much of the AEW roster, Brian Cage included, presumed AEW would allow his contract to run out, so much so that, alongside Marko Stunt and Joey Janela, Cage’s name was brought up to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson when discussing AEW contracts that were reportedly due for renewal.

Officially signing with AEW following his arrival at the 2020 Double or Nothing pay-per-view, Brian Cage was once treated as a big-time threat within the promotion. His victory in the Casino Ladder Match at that event earned him an AEW World Championship match with then-champion Jon Moxley, but since losing the FTW Championship to Ricky Starks in July, relations between Cage and AEW seemingly broke down.

What, exactly, if anything, AEW has planned for Brian Cage remains to be seen.
