Braun Strowman vs Roman Reigns Announced For SmackDown Season Premiere

On last nights edition of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX, it was announced that current Universal Champion Roman Reigns would be defending his title on next weeks season premiere edition of SmackDown. His opponent was confirmed to be none other than, the man who defeated Goldberg at Wrestlemania, Braun Strowman.

Roman was drafted to SmacDown as the second overall pick in the 2020 WWE Draft, proceeded only by WWE Champion Drew McIntyre who was drafted to RAW. Braun is still currently a free agent after failing to be drafted in the first twenty picks that aired last night on SmackDown. Additional draft picks are set to be announced tonight on Talking Smack airing at 11pm BST, with a further set of picks to be announced on Monday Night RAW.

Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman have faced off a total of 19 times on WWE TV/PPV with the earliest incarnation of the bout occurring in 2015, with The Wyatt Family taking on Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Most recently Roman and Braun faced off at WWE Payback 2020, in Triple Threat action against then Universal Champion The Fiend.

In total, the two dominant forces of WWE have had five singles matches with Braun currently holding a 3-1-1 record over ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns who has not defeated Strowman in singles competition since WWE Fastlane 2017.
