Adam Scherr, formerly Braun Strowman in WWE, has returned to the site of one of his biggest victories – Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – for the heavyweight boxing showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.
The former WWE Universal Champion was surprisingly released from his contract on 2 June 2021 after being a staple of WWE programming for many years.
Since leaving WWE, Scherr has wrestled a handful of matched on the independent circuit, mostly as part of the Control Your Narrative brand and appeared at ROH Final Battle last December.
One of Strowman’s biggest WWE accolades came in 2018 when the ‘Monster Among Men’ outlasted 49 other superstars to claim victory in the main event of WWE’s ‘Greatest Royal Rumble’. The event was WWE’s first in Saudi Arabia as part of a 10-year partnership announced in 2018.
Returning to Saudi Arabia for the first time since 2019, Scherr will be in attendance for the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight championship clash between Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk and Britain’s Anthony Joshua. Billed as ‘Rage on the Red Sea’, the fight is a rematch of the September 2021 contest which saw Usyk dethrone champion Joshua.
Speaking to Boxing Social after the weigh-in, Scherr commented on his times in Saudi Arabia with WWE.
“The Greatest Royal Rumble was unbelievable.
I just remember it was unbelievably hot and I’m a large land mammal, so adapting my training to getting ready for that. But then being able to come out, represent WWE, stepping out here in front of amazing fans, then being able to hoist that title over my head and seeing all the pyro go off.
I mean, look, I just gave myself goosebumps thinking about it. So yeah, unbelievable experience, life-changing, you know. It’s just amazing the opportunities that I’ve been given in life to travel around the world and do this. I love it.”
Scherr went on to give his prediction for the fight.
“[Anthony] Joshua looks unbelievable and [Oleksandr] Usyk is an animal, so I’m looking forward to it. We’ll see if it goes 12 rounds, but I have a feeling it might not.
I’m going for Joshua.”
It’s not the first time ‘The Titan’ has been up close with boxing’s elite heavyweights. At WWE’s Crown Jewel event in 2019, Strowman lost by countout to Tyson Fury following a knockout punch from ‘The Gypsy King’.
Scherr’s Crusher Nuts peanut butter brand are sponsoring Arab fighter Ziyad “Zizo” Almaayouf on the Usyk vs Joshua 2 undercard.
