When Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 he was greeted like a returning hero, however many wondered whether that adoration would continue.
During Rhodes’ previous run with WWE, he never progressed beyond the mid-card, but his star grew to new levels once he headed elsewhere. After spells with Ring of Honor, NJPW, IMPACT Wrestling, and more, Rhodes helped found AEW in 2019 and took on the role of Executive Vice President.
However, he stunned the wrestling world in early 2022 when it was revealed that he and his wife Brandi would be leaving the company.
Once back in WWE, many wondered whether he would be booked strongly, given his status as a “former AEW star.” Despite featuring in high-profile programs, Rhodes still hasn’t won the World Championship and is currently out of contention to win the gold. This only added to the theory held by some fans that he would have been better off staying in AEW.
However, Brandi has claimed that it’s time for fans to move on from that way of thinking. After sharing a clip of Rhodes’ getting a monster reaction at a press conference for Night of Champions, she took a jab at the claims.
“And some people still say he should have stayed where he was…maybe we should let that one go for now.”
At Night of Champions, Cody Rhodes will meet Brock Lesnar in one of three huge main events on the card.
Cody Rhodes Heading For Rematch With Roman Reigns?
Although Cody Rhodes is currently out of the title picture, and his rivalry with Roman Reigns is seemingly on the back burner, a huge rematch is potentially still on the cards. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer noted:
“As far as long-term goes, Reigns vs. Rhodes is the long-term direction for the ultimate destination match. WrestleMania is a strong possibility but this far out there are so many things that can happen.”
Interestingly, a recent report claimed Cody Rhodes will be taking part in the men’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match. This led many fans to wonder whether this could be used as a method to set up a second Rhodes vs. Reigns bout.
