WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has suggested that it’s “way too soon” for The Rock to meet WrestleMania, comparing the match to a showdown between two boxing legends.
One of the most talked about dream matches in recent memory is the potential showdown between The Rock and Roman Reigns. It’s a match that has captured the attention of so many fans because it’s a dream match that might actually take place.
Earlier in 2021 it had been reported that The Rock could be about to return to WWE at Survivor Series to set up a match with Reigns at WrestleMania 38 in 2022. While it has since come to light that the Hollywood megastar will be in Australia at the time of the event, that hasn’t stopped rumours hinting that that he may appear at WrestleMania 39 instead.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T was asked whether he would like to see the match on the ‘Grandest stage of them all’ in 2023.
The WWE Hall of Famer said it’s too soon for the clash, saying that fans will want to see the bout whenever it happens. Booker T went on to draw parallels between the clash and the rivalry between Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Manny Manny Pacquiao.
“As far as that match happening, it can happen. I just think it’s way too soon for something like that to happen because, my thing is this, if The Rock comes back and face Roman, what do you do in that match? It’s almost like backing yourself in the corner if you do something like that right now. The payoff is so much bigger down the road if you’re going to do something like that. If The Rock could just maintain, stay in shape, that’s the only thing he has to do. That’s like Floyd-Pacquiao, you’re going to pay to see it. I don’t care if it’s far past his time, you’re going to pay to see it,”
While promoting his new movie Red Notice, The Rock addressed the speculation around a potential return to the ring. The Great One said that while a title run might be out of the question, one more match, maybe against Roman Reigns, remains a possibility.
