Booker T Says Tony Chimel Should Be In The WWE Hall Of Fame

Booker T says veteran ring announcer Tony Chimel who worked for WWE for over three decades should be celebrated with an induction into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

Tony Chimel initially worked as a technician for WWE before assuming ring announcing duties in 1989. Chimel worked shows that legendary announcer Howard Finkel wasn’t present for before becoming SmackDown’s go-to ring announcer in 1999.

In his later career, Tony Chimel became known for his notorious introductions of Edge where Chimel’s voice would crack while introducing The Rated-R Superstar. In November 2020, Chimel was released from his WWE contract, ending his extraordinary tenure with the company.

Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T explained why he thinks Tony Chimel should get his recognition with an induction:

“That’s a no-brainer. Tony Chimel should be in the Hall of Fame just because of the work that he did. His body of work is definitely something that should be mentioned. Tony Chimel wasn’t just the guy doing the ring announcing.”

“He was the guy that was making sure guys got paid, making sure the truck got set-up properly, making sure certain guys needed to do promos and stuff, rounding up guys. That dude did a little bit of everything for that company for a very, very long time, and yes, Tony Chimel should be in the Hall of Fame, without even a question.”

The Undertaker was the first name announced as an inductee in the 2022 class for the WWE Hall Of Fame. The 2022 ceremony will take place after SmackDown on the night before WrestleMania Saturday.
