Booker T has come to the defence of new AEW Saraya after she was criticised following a recent promo on Dynamite.
Saraya, formerly known as Paige in WWE arrived in AEW at Grand Slam Dynamite where she confronted Britt Baker.
Fast forward seven days and the British star addressed fans for the first time, cutting her first real promo in a number of years. However, the segment drew criticism from fans and former stars for meandering, not being especially clear and not answering many of the questions that surround her new role.
Discussing the promo on his Hall of Fame podcast, WCW legend Booker T called on fans to cut Saraya some slack as cutting promos isn’t always as easy as it looks.
“It’s not easy to go out and cut promos,” said Booker. “It may look easy. You may think it is, but it’s nerve-racking to go out there in front of the fans.” Booker added that “to go out there and have that moment, it doesn’t take but one second to get off track and then the next thing you know the wheels just fall off.” He added, “It happens, I get it. I totally understand it.”
The first-ever NXT Women’s Champion took to social media after the show to address the critical comments. Saraya admitted she was a “little rusty” while cutting the promo, before hitting out at fans who took issue with a line about finally having a boss who listens to her.
The star said that the fans should go and “touch grass” blasting the tribalism that exists in wrestling’s online fan base.
