WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently discussed the topic of intergender wrestling.
In a recent episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker discussed the topic of intergender spots in wrestling and shared his thoughts on Rhea Ripley‘s physicality towards male wrestlers.
Intergender spots were common in wrestling, with notable examples like Chyna being a fixture in the Intercontinental Championship picture during the Attitude Era. However, in today’s wrestling landscape, male Superstars no longer intentionally lash out and strike women.
Despite this, Booker expressed his approval of spots where women get physical with men, citing Sensational Sherri’s involvement with male wrestlers in the past as an example.
I’m not opposed to women being physical with men. I’m not. Sherri was physical with men back in the day. It always worked. If a man, for instance, came in Sherri’s face, she would slap the crap out of him just because she knew the man couldn’t hit her back.
He appreciated Rhea Ripley’s fearlessness and her ability to hold her own against male competitors. However, he clarified that he does not support full intergender matches where men and women wrestle with each other.
I’m totally for adding more women to the action, but I’m an intergender type guy. I’m not an intergender type guy where men are wrestling women.
Intergender matches have garnered mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. While some argue that intergender wrestling allows for unique storytelling and showcases equality in the ring, others believe it promotes violence against women and blurs the lines of gender-based competition. WWE, in particular, has moved away from intergender matches in the PG Era.
Is Booker T Still With WWE?
Booker still performs as a commentator on the NXT brand, recently he called the action at the Great American Bash event. On the same episode of his podcast Booker T admitted that he was not fully sold on Gable Steveson, due mainly to the fact that Steveson hasn’t decided if he wants to commit full-time to WWE, or if he wants to go back to pursue another Olympic medal in the amateur leagues.
