On October 21st is was reported that it is “doubtful” that two-time AEW World Champion CM Punk will be retuning to All Elite Wrestling. The star has been absent from the company since he was involved in a backstage brawl following All Out. The brawl which also involved Ace Steel and The Elite was sparked by comments made by Punk in the media scrum after the event.
The report on Punk’s future also noted that the star has been negotiating a contract buy-out with AEW, but proceedings have been held-up by a lack of agreement over a non-compete clause. This appeared to imply that there would be interest from WWE should Punk become a free agent.
A further report stated that under the right circumstances there could potentially be interest from WWE and Triple H in signing their former champion. This is despite Punk leaving the company in incredibly acrimonious circumstances in 2014.
Booker T Says There’s “Always A Chance” CM Punk Could Return
During a recent episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, NXT announcer Booker T gave his thoughts on the reports. The WWE Hall of Famer suggested that while there’s always a chance Punk could head back to WWE, it doesn’t appear to be a particularly big one.
“There’s always a chance,” Booker said. “But I don’t think it’s a big chance … that we see CM Punk back in WWE. I don’t think CM Punk wants to go back to WWE. I mean, CM Punk has made it perfectly clear ever since he’s shown up in AEW, what he feels and what he thinks about WWE and everything in it.”
While CM Punk, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks remain suspended and away from AEW television, Ace Steel has been released following his involvement in the brawl following All Out. In a follow up report it was claimed that Steel was “surprised” by his departure.
