Booker T Recalls Backstage Fight In WWE – “He Was Just Assaulted”

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has recalled a backstage fight between two former WWE Superstars which saw one participant “just assaulted.”

The comments come after former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree referred to Goldberg as “horrible” during a recent interview. During the appearance on That 90’s Wrestling Podcast, Dupree said that Goldberg caused an injury that still causes him pain to this day.

Responding to the story, Booker T recalled an incident backstage between Dupree and Hardcore Holly. Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker came to the defence of his friend Goldberg.

“This is the same guy that – like, I said, I hate talking about stuff like this, but when you put yourself out there, I got to… Goldberg is a friend of mine, so I got to defend him on this. I’ve always been fond of Rene Dupree but when I hear him talk about it this many years later, I’m very surprised,”

Booker then recalled how Dupree was beaten up by Holly at a live event. Holly who was known to be tough on new arrivals, laid into Dupree due to issues between the two outside the ring. The beatdown started during a match but continued all the way backstage and out of the building.

“This is the same guy Bob Holly beat up – I wouldn’t even call it beating up, he was just assaulted. He didn’t even try to fight back. Beat him through the locker room, all the way out the back door, out of the building. And he never tried once to fight back.”

Rene Dupree signed with WWE in 2002, going on to win the Tag Team Championships twice before being released in 2007. Meanwhile, Holly enjoyed a lengthy tenure with WWE eventually being released in 2009 after 15 years with the company.
