Booker T has criticised Malakai Black over his handling of speculation surrounding his AEW status, questioning why the star didn’t address the situation sooner.
As reports around his wrestling future intensified, Malakai Black recently took to Instagram live to try and clear the air. The Dutch star dismissed reports that he had been released by AEW, explaining that he had simply been given some time off.
Before all said and done, Black reiterated his desire to return to AEW soon, saying that it could be a couple of weeks or a couple of months.
Black’s clarification after it was reported that he had requested his release from AEW, and had even had his request granted, albeit with a list of conditions attached.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T commented on the situation and questioned why the AEW star didn’t speak publicly about the speculation sooner. The former World Champion said that he felt Black’s silence only fed into the situation.
“If Malakai was released or he got his release, why wouldn’t he come out and say it himself?” Booker asked. “He never said it. He never said it once, and we never reported on him leaving or anything like that because there again, I don’t know what’s real here on the internet.
My thing is this: It would have been very, very simple for him to say, ‘Hey, I got my release from AEW. I’m going to be taking some time off, and hopefully, I’ll see you guys later on.’ None of that was ever said, and for me, we knew when Cody was gone. We knew exactly when the timeline was up, and for something like this, for me, it just seems like it was made up to create a story about another potential WWE guy wanting out.”
In the days after Malakai’s Black’s comments, Buddy Matthews has also denied to that he could be on his way out of the company.
