Booker T has admitted that “something needs to be done” after Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the May 16th episode of Monday Night Raw while the show was in progress.
Sasha Banks and Naomi remain the talk of the wrestling world after walking out of Monday Night Raw. Reportedly dissatisfied with creative regarding their respective positions as Women’s Tag Team Champions, the pair left the show while it was in progress, causing considerable rewriting of the show and the main event which they were due to be a part of.
Reflecting on the incident on his Hall of Fame podcast, former World Champion Booker T said that he didn’t think that the duo had handled the situation very well.
“Was it the right thing to do? You know, probably not, we will find out as far as the repercussions if it is a work or not,” he said. “But, I do think that it was handled, let’s just say, unprofessional by walking out like that.”
One of the supposed reasons behind the walkout, was the decision for Sasha Banks to lose to Ronda Rousey in the coming weeks, while Naomi would lose to Bianca Belair.
Expanding further, the WWE Hall of Famer suggested that “the business has gone down the toilet” if it’s true that the two women left over those creative decisions.
“If, and I am just saying if, this is the scenario to where Sasha felt like it was disrespect for her to get beat being a tag team champion, as well as Naomi getting beat being disrespected as tag team champion, if that’s the problem we’ve got a huge problem here,” he said. “That’s why I say it’s hard for me to speculate, it’s hard for me to really talk about what really happened because we are only hearing it from one side. If that was the scenario, if that was the case, damn man the business has definitely gone to the toilet.”
With regard to punishment for their actions, Booker admits that something needs to be done as it doesn’t set a good example for the rest of the locker room.
“I agree, if that’s the case something should be done, fines, suspended, fired… something should be done,” Booker T stated. “I just don’t think it sets a good example for the guys in the locker room, I just don’t, I do not think this is the way that the business motto should lean towards. ‘Well if I don’t like it I’ll just leave,’ well if everybody thought that way we wouldn’t be having a product here.”
Naomi and Sasha Banks were scheduled to appear as part of a six-pack challenge in the main event of Monday Night Raw. The match was designed to confirm a new number one contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Title.
However, the pair were reportedly unhappy with creative and left during the show. While the show was in progress, WWE released a statement claiming that the pair weren’t comfortable in the ring with two of their opponents, and felt their Women’s Tag Team Titles were being disrespected. Meanwhile, Corey Graves slammed the pair as “unprofessional” on commentary.
In the aftermath of the incident, Wade Keller and Bryan Alvarez both reported that the Women’s Tag Team Champions had little support backstage, with the prevailing mood being more confusion than anything else.
