WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T has explained why he has never considered company Chairman Vince McMahon as a friend.
Booker T began his working relationship with Vince McMahon when he joined the then-WWF in 2001 following McMahon’s acquisition of Booker’s previous employer, World Championship Wrestling.
Over two spells in WWE, Booker T has held numerous titles including the World Heavyweight Championship, has been a regular part of the broadcast team as a commentator, and has even acted as SmackDown General Manager.
To top it all, Booker T received the ultimate accolade when he was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame twice. The five-time WCW Champion first was inducted as a solo star in 2013 before entering the hallowed hall once again in 2019, as one-half of the highly decorated tag team, Harlem Heat.
Speaking on his Hall Of Fame podcast, Booker T explained why, despite his long tenure with WWE, he has never used Vince McMahon’s cell phone number that he received over twenty years ago:
“I have worked for Vince McMahon for 20 years. He gave me his cellphone number when I first met him, and I have never used that number once. I say, ‘when Vince needs to talk to me, he will call me in the office, or he will give me a phone call.’ I am going to keep it that way.”
“But I am always going to be cordial. I am going to always make sure I respect the boss, and hopefully, we have a friendly relationship. But as far as me ever looking at Vince McMahon solely as a friend, I will be totally making a big mistake.”
Booker T is not one to shy away with his opinion on the current wrestling scene and recently questioned if Cody Rhodes returning to WWE after sensationally leaving AEW is really as big a deal as is being made out.
