Booker T opened up about Ricky Starks‘ WWE NXT debut.
In January, reports emerged that Ricky Starks’ request to be released from AEW had been denied by Tony Khan despite the company having no long-term plans for the star. However, on February 10th, news broke that Starks was gone from AEW and was now “free and clear” to work elsewhere.
It didn’t take long for the star to do just that. Fans were shocked to see Ricky Starks make his NXT debut on the February 11th episode of NXT, making his entrance through the crowd and promising the shake things up in the brand. While the crowd made it clear they knew exactly who Starks was, the star did not refer to himself by name, leading to speculation that he could be due for a name change in NXT.
Speaking on a recent edition of his Hall of Fame podcast, NXT commentator and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T gave his thoughts on Starks’ debut, saying:
“We had a very unexpected entry that showed up in NXT. He’s showed up, and he haven’t said his name yet, so I’m not gonna step on that. I do know this certain guy, this unexpected entry into NXT is going to be signing a contract tomorrow. So guys, make sure you tune into NXT and check it out. I’m interested, I’m very very interested because I said just last week, man, this guy needs to show me something. He needs to show me something.”
“The Crowd Seems To Dig This Kid” – Booker T On Ricky Starks
Continuing, the Hall of Famer reflected on the crowd’s reaction to Starks, saying he’s interested to see what happens from here.
“You know, when the guy not named, when he came in, he showed me something from the promo side too, you know? I was like, wow the crowd seems to dig this kid. I’m really really interested to see exactly what he brings to the NXT.”
