At first glance it appears that Roman Reigns might be fresh out of challengers. The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion has stood tall over WWE for more than 820 days and beaten everyone there is to beat in the process.
However, on closer inspection, it could be argued that Reigns’ path to WrestleMania 39 is becoming clearer every day. As the storyline between The Bloodline and Sami Zayn continues, Kevin Owens has also been drawn in. This has led to reports that Reigns could defend his titles against Owens at the Royal Rumble in January, and then Zayn at Elimination Chamber in Montreal a month later. In theory this would leave the way clear for a WrestleMania showdown with Dwayne Johnson at the spectacular in California.
Booker T Comments On Roman Reigns’ Record-Breaking Run
The prospect of the long-rumoured clash between Roman Reigns and The Rock has also raised another question, who wins? Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, WWE veteran Booker T suggested that The Great One could be the star to end Reigns’ title reign. Although he is unsure about how the scenario would play out.
“I don’t know,” Booker T said. “It could be one of those things like when I won the title at Reality of Wrestling and just left it in the ring. I just had to show it. It could be one of those types of deals.”
The WWE Hall of Famer added that there are a “lot of layers” to how the story could unfold, while stressing the importance of looking after the Tribal Chief.
“Roman’s not the type of guy you want to have to build up all over again,” Booker T said. “Roman is not your regular average Joe out there doing this. I feel, as a promoter, you’ve got to protect that guy.”
To add further intrigue to the story, it was recently reported that there has at least been some talk of Dwayne Johnson returning at the Royal Rumble. While there has been no concrete information on this, it has been suggested that there’s a mid-January deadline to finalise his WrestleMania plans.
