Booker T Confirms WWE Departure Of Long-Time NXT Stars

Booker T

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has confirmed the departure of a long-time NXT tag team and suggested they could be AEW-bound!

In yesterday’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid of The Dyad had left WWE following the expiration of their contracts. The two requested their release from the company back in April, but they were denied.

Now the news has been confirmed by NXT commentator Booker T during the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast. Booker went on to speculate that the duo could be headed to AEW or back to their native UK and stated that he enjoyed their work.

“A couple of guys who just exited from the WWE as well. The Dyad, those guys just let their contract run out. They’ll be leaving the company. They may be showing up in AEW, you never know. They may be going back to the UK.

Those guys were two of my favorites. I thought they had something good going. I like those guys. I hate to see them go.”

Fowler and Reid are perhaps better known under their previous ring names Zack Gibson and James Drake. Then known collectively as Grizzled Young Veterans, the two most notably became the inaugural NXT UK Tag Team Champions back at the first NXT TakeOver: Blackpool.

Booker T Praises Tony Khan For Releasing CM Punk

Earlier this month, the WWE Hall of Famer praised Tony Khan for his handling of the termination of CM Punk from AEW and his announcing of the news prior to AEW All Out in Chicago.

Booker also felt that there was “a whole lot of money on the table” that was left by Punk’s exit but ultimately felt the former AEW World Champion being released was the right thing to do.

Following the releases on September 21st, the Hall of Famer praised Elias for his work in the company.
