As speculation runs wild about potential shock Royal Rumble entrants, Booker T has claimed that AEW star might get booed out of the building if he makes an appearance.
Football or soccer has transfer windows. The NFL and the NBA have the lead up to the draft. Formula One has it’s summer break. During all of these periods, whether they are a matter of days or weeks, all bets are off and speculation reigns supreme. No rumour is too ridiculous for ‘silly season.’
While professional wrestling might differ from traditional sports, the run up to the Royal Rumble sees the rumour mill going into overdrive. The constant churn of speculation has been given a little extra spice in 2022, with reports that WWE might be looking further afield for surprise entrants. Maybe, even opening the so-called ‘Forbidden Door.’
As a result, many fans have suggested that Chris Jericho, being a former WWE Superstar still on good terms with the company, might be ideal for the role.
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T addressed the rumours, but wasn’t sold on Jericho getting the returning hero’s welcome to many predict. Booker explained that it’s a very unpredictable situation, and he wouldn’t like to be the first one to take the plunge.
“Let’s think about this for a second – Jericho’s a– may be even booed out of the building, coming into a WWE arena,” Booker T said. “We don’t know what would happen. We do not know what’s going to happen if something like that was to happen right now. I would not want to test the waters on something like that right now, me personally.”
Expanding further, the Hall of Famer said that he would be “shocked” if an AEW contracted star appeared in the Royal Rumble.
“I can get past the shot-taking (by AEW), I really can. I’m a believer in, ‘We could use that, in some way, some shape.’ There, again, I’m not going to bet on it or anything, but I would be shocked if I saw AEW talent come over and do something in WWE right now. It just doesn’t seem it’s possible.”
Chris Jericho last appeared in a Royal Rumble back in 2017, but in April 2021, he was a guest on the Broken Skull Sessions with Stone Cold Steve Austin, despite being contracted to AEW.
WWE have already thrown a curveball in the women’s Royal Rumble match with the announcement that Mickie James will be competing. James hasn’t appeared in WWE since being released in April of 2021, and is the current IMPACT Knockouts Champion.
