WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has hit out at a controversial spot during Ric Flair’s final match, saying it could have “scared” the audience.
On July 31st Ric Flair wrestled his last match, bringing an end to a career that spanned five decades. While the Nature Boy might leave behind a complicated legacy outside the ring, he stepped into the squared circle one last time with his legend as one of the greatest of all-time assured.
The match itself saw Flair teaming with his son-in-law, AEW star Andrade El Idolo, to face the team of Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal at a star-studded show in Nashville, Tennessee as, for one night only, Flair and Jim Crockett Promotions rode again.
During the bout, there was one moment in particular that caused controversy as Ric Flair faked a heart attack at ringside before poking Lethal in the eye.
One man who wasn’t happy with the spot was Booker T. Discussing the match on his Hall of Fame podcast, the multi-time World Champion said that it could have left people in attendance “scared as hell”, likely due to Flair’s history of medical problems.
“That wasn’t a great moment, that wasn’t the greatest moment in the world. A man faking a heart attack to poke somebody in the eye? It was a good spot, okay, but a lot of people in that damn arena perhaps were scared as hell.”
Ric Flair emerged from the match victorious after proving himself to be the Dirtiest Player In The Game one more time by laying Jeff Jarrett out with brass knuckles before locking in his Figure Four leg lock while Jarrett’s shoulders were counted to the mat by former WWE official Mike Chioda.
Following the match, Flair was checked over by doctors and was reportedly feeling “great”.
