Booker T has weighed in on the recent tensions in AEW, arguing that Tony Khan should have intervened when CM Punk made divisive comments at the All Out Media scrum.
During the post-All Out media scrum, CM Punk took verbal shots at Colt Cabana, Hangman Adam Page, and the company’s EVPs, The Elite. His words led to a brawl breaking out backstage involving Punk, the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Ace Steel as well as others.
This incident has led to a raft of suspensions, while the AEW World Championship and the AEW Trios Championship were declared vacant. Although the latter has since been won by Death Triangle.
During a recent interview with Wrestling Inc., WWE Hall of Famer Booker T gave his thoughts on the situation, first looking at things from Punk’s point of view with regard to younger wrestlers.
“Well, I think somebody got to be the adult in the room. I think in the CM Punk situation, he’s dealing with a lot of young guys. Young guys who have pretty much wrote their own ticket, did it their way, and sometimes you got to go down to their level in order for them to come up to your level. You got to explain what your motive operandi is.”
Moving on to AEW President Tony Khan, Booker T feels he should have stood up and done something at the press conference itself.
“I feel like Tony Khan, he had to step up and do something, especially after that press conference,” Booker said, “Press conference perhaps should have been shut down. Someone should have maybe intervened and said, ‘Hey, we’re going to stop all questions right now,’ because you could see exactly where that thing was going.”
However, the multi-time World Champion did have positive words for Khan, praising his decision to suspend those involved in the brawl.
“I do think Tony Khan has done the right thing as far as saying, ‘Hey, I run this and until we can actually sort this thing out, you go home, you go home and then if we can figure it out, we’ll figure it out, but right now we got a show to do.”
