Booker T Admits He “Never Wanted To Go To WWE”

Booker T makes his entrance

Booker T has confessed that he never wanted to join WWE, instead he would have preferred to stay in WCW forever.

Booker T began his wrestling career in the late 1980’s before joining WCW in 1993. He remained with the company until it was brought by WWE in 2001. By the time that WCW closed it’s doors he was the most decorated star in the history of the company. Which was no mean feat for a company that had famously hosted the likes of Ric Flair and Sting.

As WWE brought out the promotion, Booker was one of the first stars to appear as part of the invasion, attacking Stone Cold Steve Austin at King of the Ring 2001. However, speaking in a new interview, the former World Champion has admitted that in a perfect world he would never have left WCW at all.

In conversation with Sam Roberts on the NotSam Wrestling podcast, Booker T revealed that he never wanted to join WWE.

“No, I never wanted to go to WWE, I would rather have stayed in WCW forever and finished my career out there,” Booker T admitted. “But then again, when you get put in a situation, you’ve got to deal with it. I went from being a kid on the street that got locked up in prison, the first time being in jail. I’m going to tell you right now, if you don’t know how to deal with any situation you’re put in, you’re going to find life really, really hard.”

After winding down his in-ring career, the former World Champion moved to the commentary booth, later appearing on WWE’s panel shows while launching his own podcast. On the podcast, Booker T has garnered a reputation for not holding back when giving his opinion, both good and bad.

Elsewhere in his conversation with Roberts, the former WCW star explained that his comments aren’t meant to simply cause a stir, he wants to help others improve.

After a successful run with the company, Booker T left WWE to sign with IMPACT Wrestling in 2007. The former World Champion returned to WWE in 2011, eventually becoming a broadcaster.

During his time with WWE, Booker T won the World Championship twice, going on to become the 16th Triple Crown champion. While with the company he also won the King of the Ring tournament before being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice.

Booker was inducted individually in 2013, later being inducted beside his brother Stevie Ray as the Harlem Heat in 2019.
