Booker T has assessed the upcoming WWE NXT move to the CW Network and how there are positives and negatives for the talent.
On October 1st, NXT will premiere on the CW Network and end its 5-year run on USA. With CM Punk announced for the first show in Chicago and Randy Orton announced for the following week in St. Louis, the brand is looking to make a huge impression right out of the gate.
With the CW Network being more widely available in the USA, there is the potential to increase NXT’s viewership by a substantial margin and bring more eyes to the product. With this in mind, the NXT announcer has stated that the pressure will be on for the stars of the show to deliver.
Discussing the move on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T stated that with the increased viewership there is a higher chance of criticism from the fans, creating a sink-or-swim mentality for the wrestlers:
“It’s gonna [bring] a whole lot more criticism if you’re not out there really, really performing at a certain level with Twitter and all that stuff now. You’re gonna be put out there and exposed to a lot more fans [and] it’s gonna be a sink or swim mentality For me, there again, cream rises to the top.”
Continuing, the Hall of Famer admitted that he was jealous that he didn’t have this system in place when he was a wrestler, adding that he could have seen himself in NXT if given the opportunity:
“This is huge. I’m jealous in so many ways. I could see myself coming up in an NXT system when I first got into the business and how great that would have been to actually have that kind of springboard into the next level. Man, it would have been awesome.”
