A former WWE trainer is very weary of AEW’s strict need to keep up with wins and losses.
AEW introduced the ranking system to keep track of everyone’s wins and losses. The idea was to reward those at the top of the rankings with title matches on the next big PPV or a television episode. Although many fans appreciate the promotion’s commitment to wins and losses, one veteran in the business believes it’s more of a detriment to certain wrestlers.
On the latest episode of the “Oh…You Didn’t Know” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer and former Performance Center trainer Road Dogg voiced his honest opinion on the promotion’s ranking system. He believes that not every match should have a clear finish and that just some people need to lose to tell a story.
“Using the point system like they do in AEW, at some point you’re going to book yourself into a corner there, because everybody needs to be able to be beaten, and everybody needs to be able to win. It’s just not good for everybody. Can’t we just tell the story and not do that?”
AEW used the ranking system to justify CM Punk challenging then AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page at Double or Nothing. Punk would defeat Page at the event, only to relinquish the title a week later due to injury. Jon Moxley was recently crowned Interim World Champion at Forbidden Door.
