Bobby Lashley against Brock Lesnar has been seen as something of a dream match in WWE for a number of years, but it now appears that the match was also on the company’s radar when Lashley returned to WWE in 2018.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Lashley was told that “he was gonna get Brock” and that there is no real reason why the match hasn’t taken place yet, other than they simply haven’t got round to it.
“Well you know they never had that match, so it’s kinda something new. You know when Bobby Lashley came in, he was told he was gonna get Brock and that’s years ago, and it just never materialized, they just never got around to it. It’s not like they couldn’t do it or there’s a reason not to do it, they just never got around to it. So I think that Bobby wants it and I think people, because they’ve seen both those guys around, and they know they’re two big strong guys and it’s just a match that hasn’t been done. So yeah, I could see why people would want it and I’d wanna make that match if all things were right. I’d have made it already, but just as well, I mean now, y’know it’d be bigger now then it would’ve been back then because now that Lashley’s been pushed so hard in the last year that he means a lot more than he did in the past and Brock coming back will mean a lot because he’s been gone for a long time”
Since returning to WWE Lashley has often spoken of his desire to face Brock Lesnar, exclusively telling Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy that “Of course Brock is that kind of mystery match, dream match that everybody has wanted us to have for some time now.”
Brock Lesnar for his part hasn’t been seen inside a WWE ring since losing the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre at WestleMania 36 in April 2020.
In Lesnar’s absence it was announced on the March 15th episode of Monday Night RAW that Bobby Lashley will defend his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 37.
